John Varvatos autumn/winter 2013 collection is all about creating a bridge between opposite universe, crossbreeding English dandyism with New York modern coolness. He mixed different texture –smooth and rough materials. The new tailored silhouette has a subtle hourglass shape, a stronger shoulder and boot-cut trousers.
Eye and touch are constantly stimulated: traditional patterns such as herringbone and checks are brushed away on short coats; knit is bonded with leather on an overcoat to get a firm feel; needlepunched shirts mix knit and fabric. Bouclè knits add more texture, while suits are also cut in knitted fabric. The used brushed tweeds, artisan finished leathers, hand knit sweaters and washed velvet shoes created a timeless and modern sophisticated elegance.
The collection is sophisticatedly rough, with a richly tactile quality.
