Sony World Photography Awards is an annual widely recognised as the leading global photographic awards programme in existence today. Through conducting a range of annual competitions, their mission is to discover talent across many diverse fields of photography. They support photographers beyond just receiving their award; featuring their work across the WPO’s website (WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY ORGANIZATION- a global platform for photographers and the wider industry to communicate, cultivate and congregate.)
One of the world's leading photographic awards programmes, the Sony World Photography Awards showcase the very best in contemporary photography across a range of categories - from Nature & Wildlife to Current Affairs and Travel. The shortlist will be announced on 5 February 2013 and the overall winners will be revealed at a glittering awards ceremony in London on 25 April 2013.
Professional photographers will compete for the coveted title of L'Iris d'Or/Sony World Photography Awards Professional Photographer of the Year 2013, plus a $25,000 (USD) cash prize. Amateur photographers will contend the Open Photographer of the Year 2013 title, plus $5,000 (USD). All category winners across the awards will receive the latest digital imaging equipment from Sony. All 2013 winning and finalist photographers will receive an exhibition of their work at Somerset House, one of London's historical landmarks, from April - May 2013. They will also be featured across the WPO website and all winners, as well as a selection of shortlisted photographers, will be published in the annual Sony World Photography Awards hardcover book.
