I finally had the chance to look at New York Spring/Summer 2009 shows that was held on Sep. 05 to 12. I think NY offered a variety of choices for men Spring/Summer 2009. As a city known for its diversity it seems that NY designers’ were influenced by variant male icons-70’s TV guys from Band of Outsiders, David Bowie during the David Bowie Live era for Philip Lim, NY artists like Jackson Pollock & Edward Hooper for Gilded Age, male athletes for Duckie Brown, Sam Elliott and Parker Stevenson from a 1976 movie “The Lifeguard” for Michael Bastian, Ian Curtis of Joy Division for Rag & Bone and the brat packs from the movie “The Outsiders” for Richard Chai.
Designer Richard Chai’s mens’ spring/summer 2009 is my top favourite. I love the perfect melding of punk and preppy. There’s a distress look on the clothes but still look very clean and elegant. The cut looks so comfortable. Every piece is so adorable.
I don’t know what happened to Thom Browne, for the guy who introduced the whole male population into a new way of wearing a suit his collection seems off.
